How to play Carrom

  1. Drag the striker along your baseline to place it.
  2. Press on the striker, pull back like a slingshot and let go. The further you pull, the harder the shot.
  3. Pocket one of your own coins and you shoot again.
  4. Pocket the red queen, then pocket one of your coins on the next shot to cover it and keep the queen.
  5. Clear all nine of your coins to win the board.

Carrom rules and scoring

  • The board winner scores 1 point for each opponent coin left on the board.
  • Covering the queen adds 3 points.
  • You must pocket the queen before your last coin. Pocket your last coin first and it comes back out.
  • If you pocket the queen but miss the cover, the queen goes back to the centre.
  • Pocketing the striker is a foul: your turn ends, any coins you sank on that shot come back, and one more of your pocketed coins returns as a penalty.
  • The first player to reach the target (25 points) wins the match.

Tips to win at Carrom

  • Go for the queen once a few of your coins are gone, while you still have coins to cover it with.
  • Gentle shots are often better than hard ones; they keep the striker out of the pockets.
  • Use cut shots off the side cushions for coins near your own baseline.
