Behaviour is a formula
Fogg, a behaviour scientist at Stanford, argues that change is not about willpower or guilt. Behaviour happens when three things come together at the same moment: motivation, ability and a prompt. He sums this up as B equals MAP.
The harder a behaviour is, the more motivation you need. The easier it is, the less motivation it takes. And without a prompt, nothing happens at all, however motivated you are.
