The voice in your head
Singer begins by pointing out that there is a voice inside your head that never stops talking. It comments on everything, argues, worries and rehearses conversations. Most of us never question it.
He asks you to notice that you can hear the voice. If you can hear it, you are not it; you are the one who is aware of it. He compares the voice to a roommate who chatters constantly, someone you would never put up with if they lived outside your head.
