Childhood and confessions
Gandhi wrote this autobiography in Gujarati in the 1920s. He says it is not a normal life story but an account of his experiments with truth.
Born in Porbandar in 1869, he was married to Kasturba at thirteen. He frankly admits youthful mistakes: secretly eating meat, smoking and stealing. When he wrote a confession to his father, his father’s quiet forgiveness taught him the power of honesty.
