Two boys in Kabul
Amir grows up in a wealthy home in Kabul, Afghanistan, in the 1970s. He longs for the approval of his strong, respected father, Baba, who seems disappointed that his son prefers books to sport.
His closest companion is Hassan, the son of the family’s servant Ali. Hassan belongs to the Hazara minority, often looked down on. He is endlessly loyal to Amir, while Amir does not always return that loyalty.
