The purpose of life
Howard Cutler, an American psychiatrist, spent many hours in conversation with the Dalai Lama, and the book combines those talks with his own observations and Western research. Its starting point is the Dalai Lama’s belief that the purpose of life is to seek happiness.
He argues that happiness depends more on our state of mind than on outside events. Wealth or success may lift our mood for a while, but lasting satisfaction comes from inner contentment, which grows when we appreciate what we already have rather than always wanting more.
