Big Brother is watching

Winston Smith lives in London, now part of a superstate called Oceania, ruled by the Party and its face, Big Brother. Telescreens watch every home, and the Thought Police punish even private doubts.

Winston works at the Ministry of Truth, rewriting old newspapers so the past always matches what the Party says today. The Party is always at war with one enemy or another, and the facts change whenever it wishes.
