A writer on Everest

In 1996, journalist Jon Krakauer joined a guided expedition to Mount Everest to write about the growing business of commercial climbing for Outside magazine. His team, Adventure Consultants, was led by the respected New Zealand guide Rob Hall.

Clients paid large sums to be guided to the summit. Many were skilled, but some had limited high-altitude experience.
